Stress often builds gradually, so it is not always easy to spot. The Health and Safety Executive explains that stress develops when pressures feel hard to manage, even before clear signs appear.

Many people first notice stress as a general sense that something feels off. You might feel more stretched, rushed, unsettled, or mentally overloaded. It can feel harder to switch off or to feel at ease, even during rest.

These early signals are not weaknesses. They are gentle warnings from the body and mind. Noticing them sooner gives you more choice and more time to respond.

Pause and reflect

You might like to take a moment to notice how you have been feeling recently. Do you feel more on edge or under pressure than usual? Are you pushing through rather than pausing? Awareness creates choice. The next step is learning how stress shows up more clearly.
