"Many workplaces underestimate how much stress shapes behavior, communication,
and decision-making. When people feel pressure, they often withdraw rather
than connect."

Where Sam's heart is
Over the years, people have returned to tell her, “That thing you taught me five, even thirty years ago… I still use it. I passed it on to someone else and it helped them too.”
That ripple effect matters more to Sam than big promises or bold claims. Knowing that something simple and human has travelled beyond the room and into real lives is what keeps her doing this work.

A little about Sam
Sam grew up in the 1970s as the child of immigrants to the UK, with family roots spanning continents. Her name comes from Smiya (pronounced Sam-yah), and as she entered a new phase of her work, adding the “J” from her maiden name felt like a natural way to mark that evolution, reflecting both where she has come from and who she is becoming.

Living with stress, not just teaching it
Alongside her professional work, Sam has worked as a part-time carer, supporting older adults in their own homes, including people living with dementia. She is also a carer for one of her children. These experiences keep her grounded and realistic about how stress shows up in everyday life and continually push her to find practical, sustainable ways to care for her own health and nervous system while supporting others. Many of the tools she shares come from living this reality, not simply studyi

From science to people
Alongside her corporate career, she trained part-time as a therapist and holistic practitioner, gradually shifting her focus towards supporting people with trauma, mental health challenges, and stress. Since 2008 she has practiced as a holistic therapist, deepening her understanding of how layered stress can be not only in the mind, but also in the body, the nervous system, and the way people move through the world. Professionally, Sam has also worked under sustained high levels of pressure organizing and delivering training at very short notice, responding to last-minute software updates, shifting client demands, and working across multiple time zones. Remaining calm, clear, and responsive in these environments deepened her understanding of how stress shows up in fast-moving workplaces and what genuinely helps people think clearly and perform well under pressure.

How it all comes together now
Today, Sam brings these worlds together as a stress and resilience teacher for workplaces and individuals and as a motivational speaker. Her purpose is simple: to help people reach more of their potential.
Her work focuses on reducing stress and helping people manage it well so they can work well, lead well and adapt to change. Simplicity, clarity and ease sit at the heart of everything she does: simple English, simple science and practical tools that work in real life.
At the heart of her work is a simple belief: when people are less stressed, they are kinder to themselves and to those around them. That belief continues to guide her one conversation, one group, and one ripple at a time.
